Laron syndrome is a recessive gene, so only those who receive a copy from each parent will be affected. Both children received help through telehealth therapy, a service that schools around the country are offering in response to soaring mental health struggles among American youth. The growth reflects a booming new business born from America’s youth mental health crisis, which has proven so lucrative that venture capitalists are funding a new crop of school teletherapy companies. For rural schools and lower-income students in particular, it has made therapy easier to access. Schools let students connect with online counselors during the school day or after hours from home. It now employs more than 300 clinicians providing teletherapy in over 150 school districts in 15 states.

Generative AI still mostly experimental, say executives

NEW YORK, Nov 9 (Reuters) - One year after the debut of ChatGPT created a global sensation, leaders of business, government and civil society said at the Reuters NEXT conference in New York that generative AI technology is still mostly in an experimental stage, with limited exceptions. Aguirre cited self-driving cars as an example of a technology struggling to make the transition to full deployment. “I’ve observed many generative AI applications that are in production while other customers are just beginning their journey.”One way generative AI was already being deployed widely, highlighted by speakers across industries, was to write computer code. Gary Marcus, a professor at New York University, said generative AI was error-prone in coding just like in other areas, but that the problem was less of a hindrance in the tech sector because programmers knew how to troubleshoot it. Companies should move slowly and deliberately when integrating the technology into uses where accuracy matters, executives emphasized.

[1/2] Artificial Intelligence words are seen in this illustration taken March 31, 2023. Companies are increasingly using AI to make decisions including about pricing, which could lead to discriminatory outcomes, experts warned at the conference. “We should not underestimate how powerful these models are now and how rapidly they are going to get more powerful,” he said. Developing ever-more powerful AI will also risk eliminating jobs to a point where it may be impossible for humans to simply learn new skills and enter other industries. “Once that happens, I fear that it's not going to be so easy to go back to AI being a tool and AI as something that empowers people.

A Blue Origin spokesperson said Sierra will remain a partner on Orbital Reef but declined to say in what capacity. Last week, Bezos told Blue Origin employees that longtime Amazon executive Dave Limp would replace Blue Origin's current CEO by year's end. In 2021, Blue Origin announced its partnership to build what it envisions as a "business park in space" with Sierra Space, a spinoff from defense contractor Sierra Nevada Corp. Blue Origin secured $3.4 billion from NASA this year for that lander as part of the agency's Artemis program. Blue Origin said at the time it planned to privately invest "well north" of that amount.

Police also searched the offices of the football federation RFEF in Madrid on Thursday, the Barcelona court said, as part of the ongoing inquiry into "possible systemic corruption" within the Spanish refereeing committee. Spanish football and the RFEF in particular are going through a moment of reckoning amid allegations of sexual abuse against former RFEF chief Luis Rubiales. The refereeing investigation has now been widened to include Barcelona as a suspect. Barcelona has denied any wrongdoing, saying in a statement in February it had paid an external consultant who supplied it with "technical reports related to professional refereeing", which it said was a common practice among professional football clubs. According to judge Aguirre, Negreira was responsible for ranking and evaluating the referees.

REUTERS/Ivan Pierre Aguirre/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Sept 27 (Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said on Wednesday it has closed a probe into Blue Origin's 2022 New Shepard rocket failure, forcing a redesign of the vehicle's engine and other fixes before the company can resume its suborbital launch business. Blue Origin must take 21 corrective actions before its reusable New Shepard rocket can return to flight, including a "redesign of engine and nozzle components to improve structural performance during operation as well as organizational changes," the FAA said. Non-resident homebuyers will either need to get an ITIN mortgage or pay in cash to buy a home. ITIN mortgages for individuals without Social Security numbersITIN mortgages allow borrowers to use their ITINs to apply for a mortgage. ITIN mortgages offer a path to homeownership for individuals without the documentation to qualify for a conforming mortgage. Many ITIN lenders require a down payment of at least 20%, and ITIN mortgage rates are often significantly higher compared to rates on conforming mortgages. According to Aguirre, a person getting an ITIN mortgage could end up paying as much as $500 more on their monthly mortgage payment than someone getting a comparable conforming mortgage, thanks to the higher rates that come with an ITIN mortgage.

We need to do the proper basic maintenance and we need regulation." Regulation is already being prepared in several countries to tackle issues around AI. The European Union's proposed AI Act, for example, would classify AI applications into different risk levels, banning uses considered "unacceptable" and subjecting "high-risk" applications to rigorous assessments. Developing ever-more powerful AI will also risk eliminating jobs to a point where it may be impossible for humans to simply learn new skills and enter other industries. There's a chance that AI development could get "catastrophic," Yoshua Bengio told The New York Times. "Today's systems are not anywhere close to posing an existential risk," but they could in the future, he said. "Today's systems are not anywhere close to posing an existential risk," Yoshua Bengio, a professor at the Université de Montréal, told the publication. Marc Andreessen spoke even more strongly in a blog post last week in which he warned against "full-blown moral panic about AI" and described "AI risk doomers" as a "cult." "AI doesn't want, it doesn't have goals, it doesn't want to kill you, because it's not alive," he wrote.

CNN —A Texas man who was allegedly scammed of $40 in parking fees while on a date shot and killed the man who posed as the lot’s attendant – and then “nonchalantly” walked away to proceed with his dinner plans, court records show. Before the couple walked into a restaurant, they were informed by a restaurant employee that they had been scammed, the affidavit says. Aguirre allegedly shot Nix in the torso, and he died later at the hospital from his wounds, according to court records. The woman on the date later told police she did not see or know about the shooting at that point, the affidavit states. Before being seated at the restaurant, “Erick started to look uncomfortable and suggested they go eat somewhere else,” the woman told police.
The man, Erick Aguirre, 29, was arrested on Tuesday in Aransas County, north of Corpus Christi, Texas, and charged with murder in the death of Elliot Nix, 46, on April 11. Brent Mayr, a lawyer for Mr. Aguirre, declined to comment on Friday. According to a charging document, Mr. Aguirre was going out to eat on April 11 with Melanie Castillo, who said in a voluntary statement that she and Mr. Aguirre were dating. They drove separately to Rodeo Goat, a hamburger restaurant east of downtown Houston. Mr. Aguirre paid the man, and the couple went to Rodeo Goat.
